Toshiba Introduces Industry's First 4K2K VESA? Embedded DisplayPort (eDP) to MIPI? Dual DSI Interface Bridge IC

TOKYO — Toshiba Corporation has unveiled the "TC358860XBG," the industry's first VESA Embedded DisplayPort™ (eDP™) to MIPI Dual Display Serial Interface (DSI) converter IC. This groundbreaking integrated circuit enables 4K2K Ultra High Definition (UHD) content to be displayed on handheld devices like tablets, phablets, and portable gaming consoles. Samples are now available, with mass production scheduled to begin in March 2015. The TC358860XBG is designed to convert high-definition video signals from an eDP interface into a format compatible with MIPI DSI, making it ideal for ultra HD (4096 × 2160, 3840 × 2160), 4K2K, 60fps, and 24bpp displays. As a monolithic IC, it supports low-power operation while maintaining high-speed performance, allowing manufacturers to create portable devices that deliver smooth, high-quality video without compromising battery life. This new IC connects directly to high-performance application processors equipped with an eDP interface, enabling seamless support for 4K2K UHD, WQXGA, and WQHD content. It offers a range of advanced features, including eDP v1.4 receiver support, a 1:2 compression engine for ultra HD, and flexible link configurations up to four channels. The device also supports a wide range of data rates, from 1.62 Gbps (LBR) to 5.4 Gbps (HBR2), ensuring compatibility with a variety of display technologies. On the MIPI DSI side, the TC358860XBG supports dual interfaces with up to 8 channels, providing a total data transmission capacity of 8 Gbps. It also includes auxiliary channel support and I2C-over-AUX processing, making it a versatile solution for next-generation mobile devices. The TC358860XBG is well-suited for use in tablets, phablets, portable gaming systems, and foldable computers, offering a powerful and efficient way to bring high-resolution visuals to mobile platforms.
