(Original title: Can the "Human-Machine Symbiosis" Help Ke Jie Take Revenge on AlphaGo?)
Qian Tongxin
Since Google's AlphaGo ("Alfa Dog") defeated top human players repeatedly, the non-profit artificial intelligence organization OpenAI, founded by "Iron Man" Elon Musk, once again showcased its power by beating human players in the e-sports game Dota 2. This has raised concerns that a new species may soon dominate humanity.
Musk is one of the most vocal critics of artificial intelligence. He co-authored an open letter from 116 global AI and robotics experts, urging the United Nations to take action against "killer robots." The letter warned, "Once this Pandora’s box is opened, it will be difficult to close it again."
Musk also publicly stated on Twitter: "If you don’t want to worry about the security of artificial intelligence, you must act now."
Last week, physicist Stephen Hawking warned again: "Artificial intelligence could be the worst event in our time, and its rise might mark the end of human civilization."
In this context, Ke Jie, who has personally experienced the power of AI, is the one who can speak with authority. In a recent interview with a reporter from the First Financial Bureau, Ke Jie said he is convinced that AlphaGo will no longer win. "Indeed, my belief in Go collapsed when it first beat Li Shishi."
Awe from the Chess King
In mid-October, the release of AlphaGo's new version, AlphaGoZero, with its "No-Self-Pass" research results, reignited the debate: should we fear AI, or are we already too late? If AI becomes self-aware in the future, will it be controlled by humans—or will it control us instead?
Because of his experience, Ke Jie cannot help but feel awe toward artificial intelligence.
At a theme forum on AI assisting smart finance and “knowledge mapping†held in Wuzhen, Ke Jie told the First Financial reporter: “The Go game used to be the strongest person of worship. It was once humans like us. But now, it’s a machine that makes you feel scared and forced to worship. Playing against it is painful—I even cried.â€
“There’s no point in playing with machines anymore. We’re completely out of our depth. We used to hope to find some loopholes, but now, with AlphaGoZero, we have no chance of winning. We’re just brains searching for neural networks that aren't as fast or deep.â€
However, according to Wang Qiang, a professor of computer science at the University of California, Berkeley, AlphaGo isn’t that bad. Wang Qiang told CBN reporter: “The development of AI is progressing through stages: first, perception; second, recognition; third, interaction and emotional engagement; fourth, full perception. Currently, AI is still in the second stage.â€
Professor Wang Qiang further explained that the development trend of AlphaGoZero deserves attention. “Ke Jie analyzes five points on the board to determine the best move. But when Ke Jie counts 20 steps, AlphaGo can go 1,000 steps deep and play independently, using logical thinking that humans can’t match.â€
Wang Qiang believes this is a positive development. “The deeper the network speed, the stronger the computing power. In the future, it will bring people more powerful knowledge search capabilities and computational abilities in areas like face recognition and knowledge maps.â€
He also cited examples such as data analysis traders and “smart investment advice,†explaining that the hardest part is not portfolio analysis but understanding investor risk preferences and integrating these algorithms into platforms. “Companies like Baidu Apollo and Microsoft Research are already working on putting the latest AI algorithms into platforms. This requires rationality and a lot of logical operations, and the possibility of replacing humans is very high.â€
As Ke Jie said, it's both unfortunate and fortunate to live in this era. “It’s unfortunate because we can’t win, which is frustrating. But it’s also fortunate because we can witness the confrontation between man and machine in advance.â€
Ke Jie told CBN reporter: “In the future, 90% of industries will be affected by AI, facing unemployment and restructuring. When humans face machines, we can look at what’s happening in the chess world today.â€
Human Brain Integrates into “Artificial Intelligence Brainâ€
However, the scariest scenario is not that robots replace humans, but that they might rule over them. This fear isn’t unfounded. Scientists believe that with rapid AI and machine learning development, a “new human being like God†may emerge to rule current humanity. But humans can resist future robot invasion by integrating new AI brain layers into their own minds.
Musk proposed the idea of an “AI-human symbiote.†In his view, the best way for humans and machines to coexist is through a lifestyle where “We Are the AI.†In this scenario, everyone is “artificial intelligence.†There is no evil “artificial dictator.†Instead, anyone who wants to participate in AI becomes a “human-computer symbiosis.â€
According to Musk’s vision, microchips that can upload and download information into the human brain could make our brains stronger. His plan is to treat severe brain damage using a new layer of brain electronics called the “brain net†in the next four years. By the next eight years, “Matrix†technology described in the movie “The Matrix†could become available to all.
Chen Tianshi, founder of China’s top AI chip company, told the First Financial reporter: “Emerging technologies like AI are rapidly developing and are being defined as ‘brain robots’ or ‘brain interface’ individuals. The integration of humans and machines will certainly give rise to new humans.â€
Ke Jie’s “Revengeâ€
According to Musk, who has long advocated the “AI threat theory,†the brain-machine interface (BMI) he created is the best way for the “new humans†to fight against the future “Gods†who may rule over us.
The principle behind Musk’s technique is that many thoughts in the human brain compress into low-frequency data output—like written text. With two brain interfaces, ideas can be transmitted directly to others, known as “electrocardiography.â€
AI expert Dai-Niu, director of the machine learning department at Carnegie Mellon University, told the First Financial reporter: “Computers and human brains can think similarly. The accuracy rate can reach over 90%, but teaching machines how to observe the brain is still impossible. Musk’s neural network is a good start.â€
However, regarding the future of the “human-computer symbiosis†envisioned by scientists, science fiction writer Liu Cixin described an “intangible era†1,000 years later in his novel “Time Migration.†He wrote that in that era, humans and chips would be integrated, allowing everyone to create anything they imagine in the intangible world, even entire universes with hundreds of millions of galaxies. In that world, imagination and reality merge within quantum chips. At that time, humans wouldn’t even need physical bodies.
“Although I don’t want to play chess with AI anymore because it’s too painful, if everyone wants to see me continue to be abused by AI, I’m willing to suffer again,†Ke Jie joked with the reporter.
But for the “human-computer community,†Ke Jie has high hopes. He told the First Financial reporter: “I’ve had the fantasy that if one day a super chip can boost human brain power, I won’t hesitate to implant one and play against AlphaGo, to seek revenge for the pain I’ve endured.â€
What are polycrystalline solar panels? PolyCrystalline or MultiCrystalline solar panels are solar panels that consist of several crystals of silicon in a single PV cell. Several fragments of silicon are melted together to form the wafers of polycrystalline solar panels.
Polycrystalline solar panels cost less and have a more simple manufacturing process. Polycrystalline solar panels tend to have a lower heat tolerance. There is less wastage of silicon while manufacturing these panels.
The main difference between the two technologies is the type of silicon Solar Cell used. Monocrystalline solar panels have solar cells made from a single silicon crystal. On the other hand, Polycrystalline solar panels have solar cells made of many pieces of silicon melted together.
