The LTC3780 controller can operate the LTC3780 in different operating modes by different voltage configurations on the FCB pin: in Boost mode, it can be configured as burst mode, discontinuous conduction mode, forced continuous conduction mode. The LTC3780 controller can be configured in pulse skip mode, discontinuous conduction mode, and forced continuous conduction mode in the Buck mode. Burst mode improves power conversion efficiency and extends system continuous operation time in battery-powered mobile applications. When emphasis is placed on noise control, forcing a continuous conduction mode may be the preferred solution, which is a constant frequency switching operation that achieves predictable and easy filtering at the expense of efficiency. The pulse skip mode provides a good compromise between light load efficiency and output voltage ripple.

The LTC3780 controller operates from 200kHz to 400kHz. The operating frequency can be either input by an external oscillator or by an internal oscillator circuit. When generated by the internal oscillating circuit, it is only necessary to connect 0V ~ 2.4V DC voltage between the PLLFLTR and PLLIN pins, so that the internal oscillating circuit can generate a switching frequency of 200 kHz to 400 kHz. When the switching frequency is externally input, only The PLLIN pin is connected to a clock source (where the PLLFLTR is grounded through an O.1μF ceramic capacitor). The internal phase-locked loop circuit of the LTC3780 synchronizes the switching frequency with the input clock source.

Vosense is a voltage feedback pin. The output voltage is compared with the internal reference voltage (0.8V) through an internal error amplifier through an external feedback divider resistor to adjust the MOSFET's on-time to stabilize the output voltage at the set value.
