In addition to NB-IoT, China Unicom also launched multi-city eMTC experiments this year. It can be said that China Unicom has both NB-IoT and eMTC development strategies listed on the market.

It is reported that in the third quarter of 2017, China Unicom launched eMTC field trials in four cities including Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Changsha, and verified eMTC coverage performance and networking performance.

China Unicom plans to start commercial trials in major cities in early 2018, and it is expected to start the national commercial process in mid-2018.

China Mobile: eMTC will be slower than NB-IoT for about half a year

As early as this year's Mobile Internet of Things conference held by China Mobile, China Mobile's vice president Sha Yuejia once pointed out that China Mobile is committed to simultaneously promote the coordinated development of NB-IoT and eMTC, so as to achieve complementary technology and industry.

However, at the China Mobile Global Partner Conference held at the end of last month, China Mobile announced a 2 billion special subsidy for the construction of the Internet of Things, half of which was used to support NB-IoT modules, providing manufacturers with 60%-80 The subsidy rate is not equal to 100%, and the other half is used to support 4G IoT modules, with a maximum subsidy of 50%. At the same time, it is announced that NB cities will achieve NB-IoT continuous coverage and full commercial use by the end of 2017.

And the introduction of "concise, affordable" annual package fee program, divided into 20 yuan, 40 yuan two grades; combined with customer value, for the NB-IoT module will also set a subsidy rate of 60% -80%.

Looking at these in detail, it seems that there is no mention of eMTC.

However, Wei Wei of China Mobile Internet of Things Co., Ltd. mentioned in a speech in public on a recent occasion: "From the perspective of the entire industry development, eMTC is slightly slower than NB-IoT for about half a year, China Mobile reserves the capacity of these two fields. However, as of now, China Mobile does not have a clear eMTC commercial promotion schedule.

China Telecom: Launched eMTC scale field trials for commercial use in 2018

Similar to China Mobile, China Telecom is also a step ahead of NB-IoT, and eMTC is an emerging business area that China Telecom has focused on in 2018.

At present, China Telecom has taken the lead in completing the 800MHz NB-IoT network deployment, and the 310,000 base stations of the whole network have been upgraded synchronously. The world's largest NB-IoT network has been built, and the world's first NB-IoT package has been launched.
