Nokia, Siemens and MBNL sign contract to build Europe's largest shared 3G network

Nokia, Siemens and MBNL sign contract to build Europe's largest shared 3G network

T-Mobile UK and 3 UK are implementing a groundbreaking joint network infrastructure plan. The plan aims to build the largest shared network in Europe. The network is expected to be completed by the end of 2010, when it will provide smartphone and network card customers with the largest range of 3G network coverage and the best connection and performance in the UK.

At present, the British HSDPA 3G network has achieved more than 90% outdoor coverage. By the end of this year, this number will increase to 98%.

In December 2007, in order to meet the rapid growth of mobile Internet and data volume, T-Mobile UK and 3 UK jointly established a joint venture company-Mobile Broadband Network Limited (MBNL) with a 50% investment ratio , Merge the 3G network infrastructure of both parties to create a faster and more efficient 3G network.

This shared network uses fewer signal stations and consumes less energy to provide customers with better mobile broadband services.

Now, T-Mobile and 3 UK are working together to build the largest shared network in Europe ’s history. Before the integration, the two parties had more than 12,500 signal sites. By October this year, MBNL will integrate more than 7000 sites. After the integration is completed, more than 3,000 redundant sites will be shut down as planned.

To expand network capacity, MBNL signed a contract worth more than 400 million pounds on behalf of T-Mobile UK and 3 UK with Nokia Siemens Networks, involving 3G wireless network infrastructure deployment and mobile network planning, implementation, optimization and maintenance services content. According to the contract, Nokia Siemens Networks has begun to provide related equipment and services.

Graham Payne, general manager of MBNL, pointed out: "There has been an unprecedented increase in data traffic on smartphones and mobile laptops in the UK, and all signs indicate that this rapid growth will continue for some time. In cooperation with Nokia Siemens Networks, we will provide T -Mobile UK and 3 UK users provide high-speed, smartphone-friendly 3G networks. We believe that our number of users will exceed that of any other carrier in the UK. "

Both T-Mobile UK and 3 UK have experienced rapid growth in mobile data and Internet applications in their operations. Therefore, MBNL's existing network data traffic is the highest in the network deployed by Nokia Siemens Networks to date.

T-Mobile UK technical director Emin Gurdenli said: "With the increasing popularity of high-speed mobile broadband, network performance has become the key to competition. The increase in mobile broadband usage has made this challenge more prominent. Through the company's technology and services With continued investment, we will face and overcome these challenges as always. "

3 UK Chief Technology Officer Graham Baxter said: We firmly believe that with Nokia Siemens Networks as our main technology partner, MBNL will surely achieve our goal-to create the largest HSDPA network in Europe in history and provide the best user experience.

To ensure that both operators can operate independently and benefit from the expansion of the MBNL network, Nokia Siemens Networks has deployed its multi-operator radio access network (MulTI-operator Radio Access Network, MORAN) platform. The platform not only supports merging the two networks, but also reuses existing infrastructure to reduce the number of sites.

Steve Glanville, head of Nokia Siemens Networks ’T-Mobile UK and MBNL ’s customer department, said:“ While operators around the world are seizing the opportunities brought by mobile broadband, they are also facing huge challenges in terms of cost and efficiency. We and T-Mobile We have established a close cooperative relationship with 3 UK and are committed to helping them achieve their growth goals. We are assisting them to simplify the network and meet the increasing capacity requirements while saving costs. "

Nokia Siemens Networks is the market leader in network integration solutions, and this contract has undoubtedly consolidated this position again. In the past few years, Nokia Siemens Networks has accumulated rich experience in building and operating shared networks. Today, the technology provided by Nokia Siemens Networks provides a complete set of network sharing methods for 2G and 3G communications-from simple site sharing to a fully managed network. Nokia Siemens Networks ’3G network is ideal for efficiently handling the unique signaling needs of smart devices.
