Hubei 5G technology entered the tough stage, the first outdoor 5G test base station was opened in Wuhan

Recent reports highlight that Hubei has launched its first outdoor 5G test base station, which is now open and operational. This marks a significant step forward in the region’s 5G development. The maximum speed of the 5G network reaches up to 13 Gbps, which is at least 10 times faster than 4G. With this advancement, Hubei is set to showcase its potential in smart cities, connected vehicles, and home automation.

The first outdoor 5G test base station was officially opened in Wuhan on the 1st, signaling that Hubei is moving into a more advanced phase of 5G technology deployment. This milestone reflects the growing investment in next-generation connectivity across the province.

During a visit to China Mobile Hubei Branch, reporters observed that the new 5G base station was installed on an existing site. Engineers were conducting real-time tests at the location. The 5G network achieves a peak speed of 13 Gbps, with a latency as low as 1 millisecond. Additionally, individual users can experience stable speeds above 1.2 Gbps, significantly improving data transfer efficiency.

Compared to 4G, which typically offers a peak rate of 100 Mbps, 5G is expected to deliver at least 10 times the speed. At such rates, downloading a 4K Ultra HD movie would take just seconds, making high-speed data access more seamless and efficient for users.

"5G isn't just 4G plus 1G," said the head of China Mobile Hubei Branch. "It brings much more than just faster speeds. It introduces ultra-low latency and massive device connectivity, which will revolutionize industries like smart transportation, home automation, and urban management."

With these capabilities, 5G is expected to play a key role in building smarter cities and enhancing everyday life. The head emphasized that the technology will enable the Internet of Everything, bringing about a new era of intelligent living and interconnected systems.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's plan, China aims to complete large-scale 5G network trials by the end of 2018 and launch commercial 5G services by 2020. In line with this, Hubei Mobile plans to deploy over 100 5G base stations in Wuhan in 2018, aiming for continuous coverage. The company will also conduct technical verification, testing, and collaborate with local industry leaders to demonstrate 5G applications in various sectors.
