Maxim's white LED driver IC with switching frequency of 2MHz

Maxim Integrated Products has introduced the white LED driver IC "MAX6948B" with switching frequency up to 2MHz. It can drive string lights with up to 6 LEDs in series. The maximum current that can be supplied is 30mA. Mainly used for driving backlights for LCD panels and LEDs for mobile phones.

This product is a driver IC using a step-up DC-DC converter circuit. Integrated n-channel power MOSFETs eliminate the need for external products. Due to the high switching frequency, small parts can be used for external components. Therefore, the mounting area on the printed substrate can be reduced.

Dimming is also available. After setting via the I2C interface, the brightness of the LED can be adjusted using a 10-bit PWM signal. The brightness can be adjusted to 1024 levels. In addition, there are five GPIO (General Purpose Input/Output) terminals with low output current. Can drive 1 LED. The output current of the two GPIO terminals is 30mA, and the output current of the other three terminals is 20mA. The GPIO terminal is also equipped with an 8-bit dimming function.

In human discharge mode (HBM), electrostatic discharge (ESD) withstand voltage ensures ±8kV. The power supply voltage is +2.7 to 5.5V. The operating temperature range is -40 to +105 °C. The package uses a 25-terminal WLP (wafer level package) with a mounting area of 2.31 mm × 2.31 mm. When the 1000 batches are purchased, the unit price in the US starts at $1.70.
