Han announced that it has developed the world's first pure white LED

Korean researchers say they have made the world's first pure white light-emitting diode (LED).

Advance toward the pure white LED lighting road

The research team is led by Soo-Young Park, a professor of photonic organic matter at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Seoul National University in South Korea, and includes researchers from the University of Valencia in Spain.

LEDs are much more energy efficient than incandescent bulbs or power-saving fluorescent lamps (CFLs), but their lighting quality is still controversial.

Since LEDs do not naturally produce white light, making it look like white light adds extra production costs, and therefore the price will be much higher than the average incandescent bulb or CFL. Many companies are trying to experiment with different LED formulations and ingredients, hoping to make good-looking white light and lower prices.

Park and his team claim to have developed a particle using an orange and a blue luminescent substance that, when placed together with blue, produces white light in the visible spectrum.

In other words, they have invented white LEDs.

After many experiments, this new type of LED particles is not only efficient, stable in color, but also can be repeatedly produced, so it is suitable for LED lighting.

A detailed description of this LED particle development project is available in this issue of the Journal of the American Chemical Society (JACS).

Park and his team mentioned in the paper: "An ideal white light material should be cost-effective, stable, durable, illuminate throughout the visible spectrum, not subject to self-absorption effects, and Its solid color must be easy to reproduce. We aim to synthesize a set of particle pairs that emit white light for the first time. It contains two non-interacting chromophores that can be excited in a molecular state. Excited-state intramolecular proton transfer."
