Dual-band wireless proprietary protocol SoC for the benefits of energy-efficient IoT design

The Flex Gecko Wireless Proprietary Protocol Series SoC is an important part of Silicon Labs' epoch-making Wireless Gecko IoT Wireless SoC family. Flex Gecko's strengths are the ability to quickly implement a proprietary, protocol-free networking design for IoT devices, and simultaneous support for Sub-GHz and 2.4GHz dual-band, with associated pre-certification, giving engineers a lot of design flexibility.

This single-chip solution delivers industry-leading energy efficiency with ultra-fast wake-up speeds, scalable power amplifiers, integrated baluns and high-performance MCUs.

EFR32FG features and advantages:

1) Low-power wireless system-on-chip: 32-bit ARM Cortex-M4 core with a maximum operating frequency of 40MHz.

2) Low energy consumption

• In active mode (EM0), the operating power consumption is only 63μA/MHz;

• In EM2 deep sleep mode (full reserved RAM, RTCC running from LFXO), the current is 1.4μA;

• Wireless module wake-up with signal strength detection, preamble mode detection, frame detection and timeout.

3) Optional multiple MCU peripherals: 12-channel peripheral reflection system for independent interaction of MCU peripherals.

4) Support Internet security: autonomous hardware crypto accelerator and random number generator.

5) Excellent RF transmit and receive performance

• With a sensitivity of -94dBm at 1 Mbit/s GFSK (2.4 GHz);

• Integrated 2.4GHz balun and power amplifier (PA) with up to 19.5dBm transmit power.

Flex Gecko Starter Kit:

The Flex Gecko Wireless SoC Starter Kit works with the Connect SDK and the Radio Abstract Interface Layer (RAIL) SDK to simplify the development of proprietary wireless protocols. The SDK contains application examples including common range tests. Laboratory evaluation functions, radio wake-up, bidirectional data table transmission and reception are also provided as source code in the application examples. With a range of support tools from Simplicity Studio, developers can take advantage of graphical wireless application development and virtual energy analysis and optimization. The Connect stack is a wireless network stack based on IEEE 802.15.4 for many proprietary applications, easily customizable and synchronously supports the Sub-GHz and 2.4GHz bands.
