LEDTV popularization accelerates penetration rate more than expected

2010 is a veritable LED-backlit TV outbreak year. Its advantages in energy saving, environmental protection and color performance have been recognized by consumers. When 3D TV is being promoted with great fanfare, LED TV has quickly completed its preemption of the market. According to GLII statistics, the market share of LED-backlit TV will increase from 7% in 2009 to 35% in 2010. LED TV is burning, and China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan LED manufacturers compete.

Samsung originally planned to ship 10 million LED TVs in 2010, but it is optimistic about market acceptance and will increase shipments by more than 17 million units.

Since LED-backlit TV is regarded as the mainstream of the future TV market, the world LCD TV factory LG will certainly not miss this great opportunity. LG has also increased the shipment of the original planned 6 million LED TVs to 15 million units. The significance of competing with Samsung is very strong.

The Japanese factory also significantly increased the number of LED TV targets in 2010. Major manufacturers such as Sony, Toshiba, Sharp, and Panasonic have shipment targets of 5 million units, 4 million units, 2 million units, and 2.5 million units respectively. Brand Vizio's 2010 LED TV shipments target is also quite high, at 2.5 million units.

LED manufacturers have introduced LED TVs, forcing other TV manufacturers to follow up, and China's mainstream TV companies have stepped up their efforts to lay out the LED TV market. Hisense is the first mainland brand to enter LED TV. Since 2008, several LED TV products have been launched and mass production has been completed. Skyworth, TCL, Hisense, etc. promoted LED TV products during the Spring Festival of 2010 with a sharp price cut. Compared with foreign brands, the price is about 30-40% lower, which is closer to the price of LCD TVs. According to the budget, in 2010 China's domestic LED TV manufacturers plan to produce 5.5 million units.

Although TV companies have set a fairly high target for their 2010 LED TV shipments, it is still necessary to see if the upstream LED supply chain can support the target. According to industry insiders, global LED-backlit LCD TV shipments are expected to reach 35 million units in 2010, although the annual target number of LED TV operators is 870% higher than the 3.6 million units in 2009. For each LED LCD TV, 580 LEDs are needed to calculate. It is estimated that the demand for LED backlights in 2010 will be about 20 billion.

The high demand for LED-backlit TVs has put a lot of pressure on the supply of upstream LED chips. In order to ensure sufficient supply of LED chips, in order to make their own LED-backlit TVs develop for a long time, all manufacturers have begun to cooperate or increase investment. Enter the upstream LED chip industry.

Samsung bought out the production capacity of Everlight to prioritize the demand for LEDs in this year's LED TV manufacturing program. LG previously announced the construction of LED packaging factory in Jiangsu with LED packaging factory Yiguang Electronics and Taiwan LCD TV manufacturer Ruixuan Technology. In addition, LG has used its subsidiary LG Innotek to increase the production capacity of LED chips. LG Innotek has purchased 50 MOCVD equipments in 2009 and is expected to add another 50 units this year.

In the face of fierce competition, when LED chips are out of stock, Chinese local LED TV manufacturers should focus more on local LED suppliers, such as Wuhan Diyuan, Xiamen Sanan, Dalian Luming, Shanghai Blu-ray. And Sapphire, Jiangxi Lianchuang and Jingneng Optoelectronics. Otherwise, there is no source of supply, and it is difficult for a clever woman to be without rice.
