New energy vehicles push Infineon to compete for new business opportunities

Electronic enthusiasts: 2012 is still a year of adjustment and planning for China's new energy vehicle market. There is no major breakthrough in overall sales, but this does not mean that the market is stagnant and inactive. The entire industry chain is actively thinking from the upstream to the downstream, cultivating the market with a more rational and pragmatic attitude. The Chinese government is also constantly introducing detailed policies to promote the development of the entire industry and infrastructure.

Improving the efficiency of the whole machine is the key to the design

Xu Hui, senior director of automotive electronics business at Infineon Technologies (China) Co., Ltd., said that Infineon used 2012 to further enrich its product line so that it can fully cover from pure electric, plug-in, strong hybrid to medium hybrid To each market segment such as 48V system, the most comprehensive new energy products and solutions have been formed. In particular, it is worth mentioning that new energy vehicles equipped with HybridPACK modules worldwide have completed a total of 200,000 kilometers in 2012 and have maintained a record of zero defects so far.

Xu Hui, Senior Director, Automotive Electronics Business, Infineon Technologies (China) Co., Ltd.

Xu Hui, senior director of automotive electronics business at Infineon Technologies (China) Co., Ltd., said that the main core electronic modules of new energy vehicles require safer, more reliable and efficient semiconductor devices and system solutions.

At the same time, Xu Hui also shared some of the differentiated advantages and innovative breakthroughs of Infineon's IGBT technology and 48V technology in new energy vehicles.

Infineon's IGBT chip thickness is in a leading position among chips of the same voltage level. For example, its 650V IGBT chip thickness is only 70 microns. This helps to greatly reduce the loss on the chip, combined with HybridPACK, a high-power technology module, can help greatly improve the efficiency and reduce the size of the automotive motor controller.

Infineon has made important progress in 400V IGBT chip technology recently, and will launch corresponding mass production modules in the near future. The thickness of the 400V IGBT chip is only 40um, which is less than half the thickness of a sheet of paper. It requires extremely superb manufacturing technology to achieve it.

In addition to IGBT modules used in automotive motor controllers, Infineon ’s low-power products (less than 6kW) Easy ModuleTM can also be widely used in DC / DC and various high-voltage accessories such as electric heating, electric air conditioning and electronic oil pumps Etc. to truly improve the efficiency of the vehicle from all aspects. Xu Hui emphasized that in addition to the above products and applications based on IGBT technology, Infineon is at the forefront of the layout of the emerging 48V technology, and has become the industry's first semiconductor supplier that can provide a complete automotive-grade solution. In addition, Infineon has full confidence in the future explosive growth of the new energy vehicle market.

New standards spur the application of new volume China's new energy vehicles detonate new business opportunities

According to analysis by research institutions, sales of new energy vehicles are expected to reach 250,000 in 2015 and 3 million in 2020. Compared with the level of more than 9,000 in 2012, the sales of new energy vehicles will increase by nearly 27 times in the future. In view of this, a series of safety issues caused by new energy vehicles must also be focused on. The proposal of the new automotive safety standard ISO 26262 just solved these concerns.

Xu Hui, Senior Director of Automotive Electronics Business at Infineon Technologies (China) Co., Ltd., explained the opportunities and challenges brought about by the outbreak of China's new energy vehicles in two parts.

Xu Hui said that the main core electronic and electrical modules of new energy vehicles include: motor drive, battery management, DC / DC, vehicle charger and vehicle controller. A large number of signal detection, calculation and control require more reliable and efficient semiconductor device and system solutions. The trend of miniaturization of modules requires lower heat dissipation and higher power density.

Faced with the requirements of new energy vehicles for devices such as sensors, microcontrollers and power semiconductors, Infineon continues to innovate technical products based on the diversity and development trends of the Chinese market. Xu Hui demonstrated Infineon's countermeasures from the following three aspects:

First, in the field of sensors, the new iGMR giant magnetoresistive effect sensor (such as TLE5012) will be used to detect the rotor position of the motor;

Second, in the field of microcontrollers, AURIX, a 32-bit microcontroller based on 65nm, will fully support the system design of the ASIL-D safety level standard;

Finally, in the field of semiconductor power devices, the diversification of vehicle models, powertrains and core components has brought about ever-changing and complex technical requirements. This requires diversification and platformization in modules, chips and other technical fields.

When talking about the far-reaching significance of the ISO 26262 standard for the new energy vehicle industry, Xu Hui emphasized that responding to the new system safety standards requires a large amount of development resources and can be achieved through the cooperation of the entire industry chain. However, for new energy vehicles, safety is an important guarantee for the design of the primary indicators and promotion; the realization of ISO 26262 is inseparable from the strong support of chip technology, Infineon ’s technical reserves here will help its fierce market competition Made a differentiated advantage. Xu Hui revealed that Infineon provides a reliable and secure computing platform for ISO2626, including 16-bit and 32-bit microcontrollers, accompanying chips and supporting software. In addition to the computing platform, a large number of power devices and ASICs are also designed with Infineon's PROSILTM technology standard, which in turn supports the implementation of ISO26262.

Strengthen localization strategy, Infineon deeply cultivates the new energy vehicle market

New energy vehicles include not only pure electric, plug-in and extended range, but also strong hybrid, medium hybrid and micro hybrid. Infineon's future strategy is to continue to take advantage of its complete product line and strive to provide customers with system-level support. System level refers not only to one-stop services based on a broad product line, but also to establish a deep understanding of customer products and provide corresponding system-level technical support.

Xu Hui emphasized that the Chinese local team is the core of the localization strategy. Infineon has always focused on establishing and cultivating local groups. In terms of local layout, so far, the layout of important automobile industry centers such as Shanghai, Beijing, Wuhu, Shenzhen, Changchun and Chongqing has been completed; In terms of team training and construction, Infineon has already had from product support, product definition to system The core technology research and development personnel of the solution, cooperate with local excellent sales and marketing personnel, and establish close cooperation with customers. The system team located in Beijing has further promoted the interaction and cooperation with important customers, and provides systematic support and solutions for customers on the basis of product services. In addition, Infineon has close cooperation with universities and independent R & D institutions. The Industrialization Partnership Program supports and accelerates the industrialization of R & D results of partners. Infineon will continue to pay attention to the dynamics and development trends of the Chinese and global markets, and provide Chinese customers with products and solutions that are more suitable for market needs.
