HARTING won the China Smart Manufacturing Zhihui Management Award and Best Employer Award

For many engineers who are new to power supply design or haven't yet reached the level of developing a full project, designing a reliable switching power supply can be quite challenging. A good approach is to treat the power supply board as a whole system and apply standard circuit techniques to achieve stable performance. This method helps in creating a high-quality product. When working on new projects, it's essential to rely on your own understanding and use proven circuits. Otherwise, the final product may face numerous issues during manufacturing. Here’s what power adapter manufacturers recommend:

What problems should I pay attention to when designing a switching power supply?

1. Determine the input voltage and output power requirements. The switching current, transformer size, and input voltage will influence the selection of the switch transistor, including its voltage rating and the number of turns in the primary winding.

2. Choose an appropriate switching frequency to minimize static losses and maximize the efficiency of the power MOSFET or IGBT. Higher frequencies can reduce component size but may increase switching losses.

3. Regardless of the voltage level, the switch transistor must have a low-impedance gate drive circuit with fast charging and discharge capabilities to ensure quick turn-on and turn-off times.

4. The transformer should include an absorption circuit to suppress voltage spikes and harmonic distortions that may occur during switching.

5. Ensure that the gate of the switch transistor has a low-resistance pull-down resistor to ground, which helps prevent false triggering due to noise or floating signals.

6. If the power requirement is high, consider integrating a PFC (Power Factor Correction) circuit into the design to improve efficiency and reduce harmonic distortion on the AC line.

7. The drive signal for the switch transistor must be stable and strong enough—ideally above 5V—to ensure proper operation under all load conditions.

8. When the input voltage exceeds 75V, it’s important to test a filter resonant circuit as a negative assist function to help manage voltage stress on components and improve overall stability.

By following these key steps, you can significantly improve the reliability, efficiency, and performance of your switching power supply design. Always take time to understand the core principles and don’t rush the process—especially when dealing with high-voltage or high-power applications.

XPON ONU

XPON (Passive Optical Network) technology encompasses various types of Optical Network Units (ONUs), each designed to meet specific needs and applications. Here are the different types of XPON ONUs, based on the underlying standards and use cases:

  • GPON ONU (Gigabit Passive Optical Network): Designed to operate within GPON networks, which provide high-speed data transmission, typically up to 2.5 Gbps downstream and 1.25 Gbps upstream.
  • EPON ONU (Ethernet Passive Optical Network): Based on Ethernet standards, EPON ONUs provide data transmission using Ethernet packets. They typically support speeds of up to 1 Gbps.
  • XGS-PON ONU (10 Gigabit Symmetric Passive Optical Network), 10G PON ONT: It supports symmetrical data rates of 10 Gbps both upstream and downstream, making it suitable for high-bandwidth applications. It is suitable for enterprise applications, high-definition video streaming, and other data-intensive services.
  • Multi-Service ONU: Capable of delivering various services (internet, voice, video) through a single ONU platform. We have Data ONU , CATV ONU , VOIP ONU, WiFi 4 ONU, WiFi 5 ONU, WiFi 6 ONU. It is used in both residential and commercial environments where multiple services are provided to end-users.

The choice of an ONU type depends on various factors such as service requirements, deployment environment, and the specific standards of the optical network. Each type of ONU is designed to optimize performance, reliability, and service delivery according to its intended use case.
