Arkema launches new grade of acrylic resin for LED lighting

Recently, Arkema Group has commercialized its new grade of acrylic resin, which is more suitable for modern LED lighting applications. Typical applications include architectural and indoor commercial lighting.

It is reported that this material can form a light diffusion effect in LED applications without affecting the overall light transmission. Michael Lamarra, director of LED lighting business development at the company, said: "The standard products on the market were originally a matte type. But that would not provide enough diffusing power for LED emitters, making it difficult to produce bright and dense light." In addition, in order to get stronger diffusion, lighting products manufacturers add white color masterbatch to acrylic resin, but this will reduce the light transmittance of the product by 15-30%.

This material also has outstanding UV and weather resistance, and has a beautiful surface gloss and scratch resistance. The resin can be used for extrusion, injection molding, thermoforming or cutting. It is recyclable and forms a smooth or textured surface of the extruded lens.

It is understood that Arkema's global headquarters is located in Colombes, France, and the US headquarters is in Philadelphia. The company's plant in Pennsylvania, USA, began producing Plexiglas Diffuse resin in March. Arkema's plant in Rho, Italy, will begin production of the material in May.
