What is the most worthy card in the thousand dollars? Or China’s special supply

[PConline Evaluation] AMD's previous Polaris graphics card was the RX400 series, with the first model featuring the "D" suffix, the RX470D, being quite popular. Apart from its mining capabilities, the card itself offered great value for money and became a classic in the market. When moving to the RX500 generation, AMD continued the tradition of the "D" suffix, introducing the RX560D. Today, we're taking a look at the Platinum OC version from Sapphire, priced under a thousand dollars. Let's see how it performs.

Unboxing: The card features aluminum fins and a smart start/stop dual fan design without pressure. It’s a clean and efficient cooling system.

The design style remains consistent with the black color of the Sapphire Platinum Edition, which has been used for several generations. Despite minimal changes, it’s still instantly recognizable as a Sapphire product.

Power Interface

The RX560D comes with a 6-pin power connector, and its power consumption is relatively low, making it suitable for upgrading older systems.

Display Output Interface

The output ports are standard for the RX560D, including DP + HDMI + DP. While not extensive, they are sufficient for most users, especially those who rely on DVI and HDMI connections.

GPU-Z parameters show slightly higher frequencies than the base model.

Sapphire offers two versions of the RX560D: a 75W model with an external 6-pin power supply, running at 1216MHz core frequency, priced at 949 yuan. There's also a 45W version without an external power supply, with a core frequency of 1176MHz and memory speed of 7000MHz, priced at 899 yuan.

We tested the 75W version today. Its specifications are similar to the RX460, but with updated technology, which may lead to slightly lower power consumption. However, due to different clock speeds, direct comparison isn't very meaningful.

Sapphire, as a top-tier brand, ensures excellent build quality, design, and thermal performance. As long as the price is competitive, it will always be a strong seller. However, factors like the mining boom and rising material costs have led to slight price increases for the RX560D. In fact, the entire graphics card market has seen price hikes, which is hard to avoid.

Dismantling: The card could be made even smaller.

You can see that the components on the right side of the PCIe slot are sparse. It could easily be made into a shorter card with a narrower form factor.

Magnesium GDDR5 Memory

The RX560D has a 128-bit memory bus, using four 1GB chips for a total of 4GB of VRAM. This is more than enough for the core of the RX560D.

● Test Platform Description

Sapphire RX560D 4G D5 Platinum OC (75W) – Image Review & Parameter Overview

To better reflect real-world usage scenarios, we tested the RX560D in both gaming and standby modes to understand its power consumption advantages.

Power Consumption Test Summary: The RX560D consumes about the same as the RX460, and is significantly higher than the GTX1050, which runs even cooler under full load.

● Graphics Stability and Full Load Temperature Test:

We tested the stability of the card using 3DMark. The RX560D passed 97% of the test, while the Sapphire Platinum OC passed 99.5%, proving its stability. The full load temperature was 74°C, which is a normal and acceptable number.

● Full Load Noise Test:

We used a noise meter to measure the fan noise during the 3DMark stress test.

The noise level stabilized at just 43 decibels, which is remarkably quiet for a graphics card. This shows that the cooling system of the Sapphire Platinum Edition is well-designed.

PConline Evaluation Room Summary:

Sapphire RX560D 4G D5 Platinum OC (75W) – Image Review & Parameter Overview

In reality, the performance of the RX460 is very similar to its predecessor, as the core size is identical, and the difference lies only in the clock speed. In practice, the performance gain from slightly higher frequencies is not very noticeable.

The positioning of the card is clear. If you don’t have a dedicated GPU, this is a solid upgrade option. However, if you already have a GTX950 or better, the upgrade won’t be significant. Compared to the GTX1050, the RX560D has more memory and can handle a wide range of games more effectively.

The Sapphire RX560D Platinum Edition OC is slightly more expensive than other brands’ RX560D models, but given the brand's reputation for quality and craftsmanship, it's worth the extra cost.

Advantages and Disadvantages:

1. Minor technological improvements and slight efficiency gains.
2. Better memory capacity compared to the GTX1050, but slightly higher pricing than other brands.
