2016 AI field investment transaction hit a new high
In 2016, there were 475 investment transactions in the field of artificial intelligence (as of October 20), the highest level in the past five years. In 2016, two artificial intelligence companies became new unicorns, namely China Medical Artificial Intelligence Startup iCarbonX and American artificial intelligence network security startup Cylance.
Three large-scale investments in the third quarter
In the third quarter of 2016, the artificial intelligence industry completed a total of 146 investment transactions, including three large-scale investments, including artificial intelligence security services company StackPath received $180 million in Series A financing; energy-saving software platform Stem and the use of machine learning to improve crop quality. Enterprise Indigo Agriculture received $100 million in financing, respectively.
Investment outside the US
In the third quarter, 61% of the artificial intelligence industry investment transactions were initiated by US start-ups, including India, the United Kingdom, Germany, Israel and France.
Chinese artificial intelligence start-ups that received investment in the third quarter included iCarbonX receiving $45 million in Series A investment and 9KaCha receiving $10 million in Series B investment.
Most active venture capitalist
Khosla Ventures is the most active venture capital investment in artificial intelligence start-ups and has invested in more than 15 AI companies since 2012, including MetaMind, Scaled Inference, Cylance and Ayasdi.
