The outdoor lighting with the same power consumption and brightness as the 32W fluorescent lamp is almost the same. Driven by solar cells, no special wiring is required. Sharp estimates that it consumes 153.3 kWh of electricity and 48.2 kg of CO2 per year compared to power-driven outdoor lighting. The white LED with a light source life of about 40,000 hours (before the brightness is reduced to 70% of the initial level) is therefore more convenient to maintain than an outdoor light with a fluorescent lamp with a service life of approximately 5,000 hours. Sharp said that when using fluorescent lamps, about 5 times of light source must be replaced in 10 years (12 hours per day), and this outdoor lighting can be replaced in about 10 years.

The product will be first introduced to the domestic market in Japan, which is said to have a total of about 10 million street lights in Japan and 100,000 new ones each year. Now, in the new demand, the proportion of products driven by solar cells is “less than 1% currently” (Sharp). This outdoor lighting has many advantages - it does not use power, so it does not emit CO2. Even if it is caused by earthquake or typhoon, it can be used as a lighting, and there is no need to replace the light source for about 10 years. Therefore, Sharp intends to focus on these advantages, and seize the new demand market in the overseas market. In this outdoor lighting, the brightness of the LN-LW3A1 is 1800 lm, and the brightness of the LN-LS2A is 1200 lm. The number of white LEDs used in the light source is 756 for 1800 lm and 504 for 1200 lm. In order to achieve the effect of sunlight, the white LED uses a white color product with a color temperature of 6800K. For the solar cells, the 1800lm product is 2 pieces of 80W class, while the 1200lm product is 1 piece. The electricity generated by the solar cells is stored in the lead storage battery. The 1800lm product is equipped with five lead batteries with a battery capacity of 38Ah and three for the 1200lm product. When fully charged, even if there is no sunshine for a week, you can work as usual (7 hours for full-power lighting every day, and the rest of the time for energy-saving lighting). Equipped with a seismic sensor, it can continuously perform full-power illumination within 2 days after detecting a magnitude 5 earthquake.
